Rectum

A short muscular tube completing the last section of the large intestine and continuing to the anus.

Refractory period

In men, a period of unresponsiveness directly following ejaculation in which the body recovers. There is no refractory period in women.

Resolution phase

The final phase of sexual response in which the body returns its relaxed prearoused state.

Retarded ejaculation

The difficulty or inability for a man to ejaculate dispite sufficient excitement and stimulation. 

Retrograde ejaculation

A condition in which, during orgasm in the male, the semen is expelled backward into the bladder rather than out of the urethral opening resulting in infertility. 

Retroverted uterus

A condition in which a woman's uterus is tilted backward toward the intestine instead of forward.  Also called "tipped uterus" and usually does not cause any gynecological concerns.

Rhythm Method

A method of contraception that involves abstaining from sexual intercourse during the fertile (middle days) of the woman's menstrual cycle each month. Not always a safe form of birth control.

Rimming

A slang term for anilingus.

RU-486

An oral postcoital birth control pill that causes a possible pregnancy to end.

Rubber

A slang term for condom.
