Parametrium

The outer layer of the uterus made of tough fibrous tissue.

Pap test

A test for cervical cancer done by examining cells scraped off the cervix during a pelvic examination. Also referred to as a pap smear and should be checked annually.

Paraphilia

Sexually arousing feelings or fantasies involving nonhuman objects; suffering or humiliation of oneself or one's partner, children or other nonconsenting individuals.  

Partialism

A fetish in which a person is sexually attracted to a specific body part independent of the person.

Passion

Powerful emotion such as love, lust, anger or hatred. 

Pediculosis pubis

Lice that infest the pubic hair also referred to as crabs.

Pelvic cavity

Area in lower body trunk containing the reproductive organs and genitiuriary systems in both sexes.  

Pelvic floor

The underside of the pelvic area extending from the top of the pubic bone to the anus.

Pelvic Inflammatory  Disease (PID)

Infection of the female reproductive organs that can lead to infertility. 

Penetration

A sexual act involving the penis being inserted into the vagina or anus.

Penetrative sex

Penetration of the vagina or anus by the penis.

Penile rings

Rubber rings placed around the shaft of the penis to help maintain an erection or provide stimulation to the clitoris. Helpful with erectile problems.

Penis

The male sexual organ through which both urine and semen pass. 

Penis pump

A suction device used on the penis for sexual stimulation and temporary penis enlargement. 

Perimetrium

The thin membrane covering the outside of the uterus.

Perineum

A strip of sensitive tissue that runs between the genitals and the anus in both sexes. 

Pessary 

A device placed in the vagina to correct the position of a prolapsed uterus.

Phallic

Penis or penis-like in shape or form.

Phallus

An object that is erect like a penis in shape or form.

Pheromone

A sexually arousing chemical substance that is secreted by the body to trigger a sexual response and attraction in potential mates.  Also given off by animals.

Phimosis

A condition in which the foreskin is so tight against the glans that it cannot be pulled back and must be corrected surgically. 

Photoplethysmograph

A device used to measure physiological sexual arousal in the female.

PID

An abbreviation for pelvic inflammatory disease.  

Pituitary gland

A gland located at the base of the brain that secretes several hormones important to growth and sexual and reproductive functions.

Plateau phase

The second phase of sexual response following excitement usually ending with orgasm or resolution.

Platonic

Not involving sex.

Platonic love

Nonsexual love for another person; friendship. 

Playing with oneself

A slang term for masturbation.

Pleasure principle

The principle that all beings seek pleasure and avoid pain.

Pleasuring

Giving pleasure through erotic touching.

Plethysmograph

A device used to measure physiological sexual arousal in the male.

PMS

An acronym for premenstrual syndrome.

Polyamory

To be attracted to or involved with several people at a time. 

Polygamy

To be married to several people at the same time. 

Pornography

Sexually arousing material such as films and magazines that is more explicit and not as artistic as erotica. 

Postcoital

The period following sexual intercourse and orgasm.

Postcoital glow

The shine or glow on a person's face following orgasm.

Postcoital Fatigue

A relaxed and sleepy feeling one gets following intercourse and orgasm.

Premature ejaculation

The inability to control or delay ejaculation.

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

A combination of physical and psychological symptoms including irritably and depression that affects some women prior to menstruation.  

Prepuce

The foreskin of the penis.

Priapism

A rare, but painful, condition in which a male has a prolonged erection that does not subside following orgasm. 

Progesterone

The sex hormone released by the ovaries that is necessary for healthy female reproductive system.

Prophylactic

A drug or device used to prevent disease such as a condom.

Prostaglandins

Hormones in men that stimulate muscle contractions.

Prostate gland

In men,a walnut-sized muscular gland surrounding the neck of the bladder and urethra that is involved in producing seminal fluid. In women, the G-Spot is said to be akin to the male prostate.

Prostatitis

An inflammation or infection of the prostate gland.

Prostitution

The exchange of sexual pleasure for money.  

Pubic hair

Hair in the genital area that begins to appear at puberty.

Pubic lice (louse singular) 

Phthirus pubis. Tiny lice that infests pubic hair. Also referred to as crabs.

Pubococcygeus

A muscular sling in both men and women that stretches from the pubic bone in front to the tailbone in back that supports the internal sex organs.  They control contractions during arousal and orgasm and control urine flow.  Also known as the PC muscles and they should be exersized regularly.

Pudendum

The external genitals of the female.
